We fully understand that there’s a shortage of people with the necessary skills and experience to solve your Control & Instrumentation problems. Many companies across the UK are suffering from an ever-growing backlog of maintenance and compliance issues, pushed back due to reactive work which inevitably takes priority. Unfortunately this only compounds the problem in the long-term, the reactive work grows in frequency from the lack of maintenance.
The lack of manufacturing in modern-day UK has meant that the last 20 years has seen very few traditional Instrumentation apprenticeships being completed. This shortage has put the remaining Instrument Technicians in a strong position, making it very difficult for large organisations (with little flexibility in employment packages) to recruit successfully and even harder for them to retain the resource. So how do we resolve it?
We have to accept that modern Control & Instrumentation is very different from 40 years ago. Not only are instruments more robust & reliable, they are less prone to calibration loss. More often than not, the most cost effective solution to instrument failure is replacement rather than repair.
Further up the control system, the aptitude required for PLC, SCADA & Telemetry engineers is better aligned to IT & Software skills, rather than the electrical, pneumatic or mechanical skills of a traditional Instrument Technician.
We firmly believe that with the guidance of our specialist consultants, we are able to offer expert assistance to your management team & engineers, or provide bespoke training packages to up-skill your electrical, mechanical & operational technicians.
